MRA Round 1 Race Report

January 31st, 2012

Former V8 Supercar driver Gath Walden had a great run in his Commodore in the Super TT races

Round 1 of the 2012 Motor Racing Australia Series was held at Wakefield Park on Sunday, January 29.

Categories racing at the meeting were Super TTs, Mazda MX5s, Minis, Superkarts and Sports Sedans, as well as a regularity event.

The Super TTs and Mazda MX5s were combined, and divided into two groups. In Group A, Stephen Anslow took victory in all three races. Darren Pearce finished second in Race 1, but Bob Brewer finished second in Races 2 and 3 after a DNF in Race 1.

Group B, meanwhile, was taken out by Matthew Reid in his Mitsubishi Evo. Parry Anastakis put in a fine effort in his Peugeot 205, finishing in the top three in all three races.

The Mazda MX5s were separated from the Super TT cars for a trophy race, which was taken out by Jake Shelly, ahead of his father Steve Shelly. Shane Otten led for nine of the 10 laps but retired on the very last lap, allowing the Shellys through for their 1-2 finish. Neil Halls came home in third position.
