Super Trucks Roar into Goulburn

  • Wakefield Park to host opening round of 2016 Australian Super Truck Championship
  • Super Truck to be displayed in Belmore Park, Friday lunchtime

The excitement and thrill of truck racing returns to Goulburn this weekend, 7-8 May with the opening round of the 2016 Australian Super Truck Championship to be held at Wakefield Park.

Additionally, in what will be a big spectacle for the community, one of the Super Trucks will be parked on display in Belmore Park, right in the heart of Goulburn, on Friday 6 May from midday to 2:00pm, allowing race fans to have an up-close look at one of the amazing machines.

Wakefield Park operations manager Matt Baragwanath said truck racing has always been a crowd favourite.

“We’re very pleased to welcome the trucks back to Wakefield Park, they always produce close and exciting racing and the crowd absolutely loves them,” Mr Baragwanath said.

“Having the opportunity to display one of the trucks in Belmore Park is great news for the town of Goulburn and we encourage everyone to come along during their lunch break and check it out!”

A total of six races will be held for the trucks across Saturday and Sunday and, in a twist likely to add to the spectacle, the races will feature a reverse-grid format in which the fast trucks will have to fight their way through the field.

Steven Zammit heads into the weekend as favourite; Zammit reclaimed the national truck racing title after a narrow defeat in 2014, and his Kenworth T401 always features at the front end of the field.

Zammit’s main challengers will be the other Kenworth of Shannon Smith, along with the Mack Superliners of Barry Butwell and Marcus Prillwitz, which were the big improvers last season after a development year in 2014.

The truck racing will be supported over the weekend by the Mazda MX5 Cup, Combined Tin Tops, Miniature Race Cars, Legend Cars, Formula Vee and PRB Clubmans.
